The Finnish Food Authority has expanded the core area of the African swine fever (ASF) infection zone in the Virolahti and Miehikkälä areas. The core area has been extended approximately 11 kilometers westward. The boundaries of the infected zone remain unchanged.

The core area is being expanded because ASF was found in dead wild boars found in the Virolahti area to the west of the core area. Fifteen wild boars that died about a week ago were found in the relatively small area. Laboratory tests on seven wild boars on 28 October confirmed ASF. The remaining test results will be completed later.

Hunting restrictions will remain unchanged, but some restrictions will be specified in a decision by the Finnish Food Authority on 29 October 2026.
